Volunteering for Shalom

Current Volunteer Opportunities (most opportunities would require a minimum of one two-hour shift each week, Monday through Friday, between 7:00am and 4:30pm depending on the opportunity.)

  • Volunteer Coordinator Assistant – Assist the volunteer coordinator with recruitment, placement and training of new volunteers.  Volunteers should commit to 12 hours a week.   Some work can be done off site.
  • Kitchen workers help serve meals and do dishes.  Times needed:  Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Hospitality volunteers work the front desk greeting guests and assisting them with various services such as distributing mail, messages and toiletries; registering people to take showers, do their laundry and to visit with a caseworker for financial assistance.  Times needed:  Mondays from noon – 4, Tuesdays from 8:00-2:00, Wednesdays 11:00 – 4:00, Thursdays from 1:00 – 4:00, Fridays from 10:00 – 2:00.   A minimum of a two-hour shift within these times would be fine.
  • Shopper at Hoosier Hills Food Bank for food needed for our meal program.  We need a shopper on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays between 9:30 and 12:30.  Volunteer must have a car and is able to lift up to 20 lbs.
