If you are looking for somewhere to volunteer, Shalom is a great place! Our needs are as varied as your talents. Please join us to help people in need.
Current volunteer opportunities include: (most opportunities would require a minimum of one two-hour a week shift, Monday through Friday, between 7:30am and 4:30pm depending on the opportunity)
- Kitchen Assistant – Assist with food and beverage prep, serve, wash dishes and clean-up on Mondays between the hours of 7:30 am-2 pm.
- Hospitality Volunteer – Answer phone, record and distribute messages, give referral information, and distribute mail. Volunteers also register guests for showers, to do their laundry, and to check items in and out of long and short-term storage. (special two-hour training is required)
- Employment Assistant – Help recognize patrons’ strengths and skills, empower them in the search for job and career assistance, help with resume and interviewing skills. Minimum of a one-year commitment is required.
- Family Dining Room Assistant – Assist families with children when they come to shalom for breakfast or lunch in the family dining room to carry plates, help to feed children, clean up spills, etc. Times the family dining room is open are 8-9:30 am and 12-1:30 pm
Steps to becoming a Shalom Volunteer:
*Fill out the Volunteer Registration Form (pdf file).
*Attend a volunteer orientation. (See below for days and times.)
*After the orientation, we will match your availability with our volunteer needs and get you scheduled with a start date.
*Hospitality Volunteers are required to attend a special two-hour training.

All Wednesday trainings are held in the Shalom Administrative Office, 219 E. 4th Street, in the First United Methodist Church. Enter through the North Entrance on the alley in the back and go up stairs to the office.)
All Monday trainings are held in the First United Methodist Church in Room 218. You need to enter through the door on 4th Street.
