Dear Shalom Volunteers…
This blog is part of a group we’re starting called ‘SAALT’- Shalom Awareness, Action, & Leadership Team. Salt is often called the “fifth element” after water, air, fire, and earth. SAALT will be the fifth element of Shalom after Volunteers, Guests, Employees, and Administration, seeking to empower all volunteers to become leaders of social change. We plan to meet in October to discuss individual concerns, stories, and to reflect on service at the Center. Information about this meeting will be announced on this site at a later time.
The purposes of SAALT are to: 1) Provide a support system for which volunteers can connect with each other; 2) Raise awareness of social issues regarding homelessness and poverty in the community on “Action Days”; 3) Improve interaction with Shalom guests by reflecting on the subjective value of serving others; and 4) Empower volunteers through gratitude and reflection.
It is our hope that this blog will be a tremendous resource for you to learn about and connect with each other. But we can’t do it alone!!! As volunteers, you are an integral part of the Shalom Team, and we would love to hear your stories. I will be posting some questions to get you thinking soon… So go ahead, blog… I dare you!!! :0)
Warm Regards,

Hello. I just came across your website and just wanted to say thank you for all that you are doing for the less fortunate in Indiana. I am a member of the S.H.A.L.O.M. Homeless Ministry in Middletown, Ohio and we just recently published our web site. I had not seen your site prior to our site going public. Our acronym stands for “Serving the Homeless with Alternate Lodging of Middletown” and our organizations have a lot in common. I have asked that some of our personnel to view your site and I hope that you will also make our site available to your personnel also. Keep up the great work and if there is anything we can ever do to assist you please feel free to contact us via the website.
God Bless,
William Fugate
